Quartz is the second most prevalent mineral in Earth's crust. Since ancient times, quartzes have been the most commonly used minerals in the making of jewelry and carvings.Pure quartz, also called rock crystal, is colorless and transparent or translucent,
The biggest difference in the types of quartz is whether the individual crystals are macrocrystalline ( visible to the unaided eye) or microcrystalline/ cryptocrystalline ( a mixture of crystals visible only under magnification). The cryptocrystalline varieties are either translucent or mostly opaque, while the transparent varieties tend to be macrocrystalline.
