ROCK TRIVIA: AMETHYST
Amethyst belongs to the macrocrystalline branch of quartz along with Citrine and Smokey Quartz. Most of the amethyst on the market today is the pink- lavendar commonly found in Brazil and Uruguay. The finest Amethyst is the deep grape colored stone that comes from Zambia and limited production from Tanzania and Namibia.
Russian amethysts, which were mainly mined in winter in the Urals, were once famous for their particularly beautiful colour, which - unlike most Amethyst- remained good even in artificial light.
Amethysts are often found in spaces lining agate almonds and druses in igneous rocks. The largest recorded cavity was discovered in 1900 in Southern Brazil. It measured 33 by 16 by 10 feet and weighed an estimated eight tons.
Pictured is a piece commissioned for the Duchess of Windsor in 1947. This Cartier Bib necklace is crafted from platinum, 18-carat and 20-carat gold, a heart-shaped faceted amethyst, twenty-seven emerald-cut amethysts, an oval faceted amethyst, turquoise cabochons and baguette-cut diamonds Picture by Nick Welsh for the Cartier Collection © Cartier

Pictured, in Lapis, is a design available in a variety of stones. In some cultures, fringe is supposed to confuse evil spirits so they cannot do you harm. While I can't promise this, I can say this is a versatile and seriously cute necklace!
DESIGNER OF THE MONTH: CARTIER
This bracelet is from the late 1920’s. It’s designed as a highly flexible vine and is set with conch pearls and accented with black enamel.
