ROCK TRIVIA: Green Garnets
Garnets are a set of closely related minerals forming a group, with gemstones in almost every color. The garnet group has stones of every color except blue.
Many garnets are chemical mixtures of two or more garnet species. There are several varieties.

First there is Grossularite, which has tones of yellow, green and brown earth colours.
Probably the best known green garnet may be Tsavorite which also belongs to the grossularite group. Tiffany's gave this name to the stone which was discovered in 1967 by a British geologist in Tanzania near the Tsavo National Park. The green of the tsavorite runs from vivid and light to deep it has particularly good brilliance.
Demantoid Garnet is a very rare variety of Garnet from the Ural mountains of Russia. Demantoid Garnet is generally bright green, and exhibits greater brilliance and light dispersion than even a diamond. Demantoid Garnet is also known for containing hair-like inclusions called horse tails that add to its beauty and value.
